General Election Candidate Forum for Legislative Dist. 23 State Representative, Pos. 1

On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the League of Women Voters of Kitsap, in partnership with Up from Slavery Initiative and Olympic College, hosted a live forum with the candidates running for Legislative District 23 State Representative Position 1. All candidates were invited to participate, and the forum was held at Olympic College in Bremerton. The candidates for Legislative District 23 State Representative Position 1 are Tarra Simmons and Daria Ilgen. Moderators for this forum were Darryl Riley, CEO of the Up from Slavery Initiative, and Kim Abel, LWV Kitsap Forums Coordinator.

The questions were submitted in advance, by the public, through the League's website. Because of the number of questions that were submitted, not all could be asked. Candidates were able to share their reasons for seeking to serve as Legislative District 23 State Representative. They were also able to weigh in on solutions to solving some of the challenges that the State of Washington and the 23rd Legislative District are facing.

On Monday, September 28, 2026, the League of Women Voters of Kitsap, in partnership with Up from Slavery Initiative and Olympic College, hosted a live forum for the candidates who filed to run for Legislative District 26 State Representative Position 2. All candidates were invited to participate, and the forum was held in Bremerton City Council chambers.  Legislative District 26 State Representative Position 2 candidates are Katy Cornell and Renee Hernandez Greenfield.

The questions were submitted in advance, by the public, through the League's website. Because of the number of questions that were submitted, not all could be asked. Candidates were able to share their reasons for seeking to serve as Legislative District 26 State Representative. They were also able to weigh in on solutions to solving some of the challenges that the State of Washington and the 26th Legislative District are facing.

General Election Candidate Forum for Legislative Dist. 26 State Senator

On Monday, September 28, 2026, the League of Women Voters of Kitsap, in partnership with Up from Slavery Initiative and Olympic College, hosted a live forum for the candidates who filed to run for Legislative District 26, State Senator. All candidates were invited to participate, and the forum was held in Bremerton City Council chambers. Legislative District 26 State Senator candidates are Deborah Krishnadasan and Gary Parker.

One day before the forum, Gary Parker's staff sent the following message to the LWV Kitsap Forums Coordinator: "Unfortunately, it was discovered that Mr. Parker was double booked for this time and date and will not be able to attend the forum." Per League of Women Voters policy, both candidates were offered the opportunity to present a two-minute statement, either in person or to be read by the moderator. Deborah Krishnadasan presented her statement in person, which was recorded and shown here. Mr. Parker's office did not provide a statement.

On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the League of Women Voters of Kitsap, in partnership with Up from Slavery Initiative and Olympic College, hosted a live forum with the candidates running for Kitsap County Assessor. All candidates were invited to participate, and the forum was held at Olympic College in Bremerton. The candidates for Kitsap County Assessor are Michael Simonds and Phil Cook. Moderators for this forum were Mev Hoberg and Betsy Cooper, on behalf of LWV Kitsap.

The questions were submitted in advance, by the public, through the League's website as well as by the audience on the evening of the forum. Because of the number of questions that were submitted, not all could be asked. Candidates were able to share their reasons for seeking to serve as Kitsap County Assessor. They were also able to weigh in on solutions to solving some of the challenges that the Kitsap County Assessor's office is facing.

On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the League of Women Voters of Kitsap, in partnership with Up from Slavery Initiative and Olympic College, hosted a live forum with the candidates running for Kitsap County Prosecuting Attorney. All candidates were invited to participate, and the forum was held at Olympic College in Bremerton. The candidates for Kitsap County Prosecuting Attorney are Joe Lombardi and Chad M. Enright. Moderators for this forum were Darryl Riley, CEO of the Up from Slavery Initiative, and Paula Lewison on behalf of LWV Kitsap.

All candidates were invited to participate, and the forum was held at Olympic College in Bremerton. The candidates for Kitsap County Sheriff are Brandon L. Myers and Rick Kuss. Moderators for this forum were Matthew Macklin on behalf of the Up from Slavery Initiative, and Robin Muir on behalf of LWV Kitsap.

Forum regarding Kitsap County Public Utility District Proposition 1

On Monday, October 5, 2026, the League of Women Voters of Kitsap, in partnership with Up from Slavery Initiative and Olympic College, hosted a live forum for the Kitsap Public Utility District Proposition 1 ballot measure. Representatives for both the pro and con positions were invited to participate, and the forum was held at Olympic College in Bremerton. The speakers were Angela Bennink, KPUD General Manager, David Behar and Sue Ellen White arguing for the measure, and Robert P. McGee and Shannon Turner arguing against the measure. Moderators for this forum were Darryl Riley, CEO of the Up from Slavery Initiative, and BreAnna Taylor, President, Student Government of Olympic College (SGOC).
